Construction of Slovenia's Expo Pavilion in Full Swing
Ljubljana, 13 January - The construction of Slovenia's pavilion for the Expo 2015 world exhibition in Milan is in full swing and proceeding in line with the schedule set by the organisers. It is expected to be opened for a trial run at the beginning of April, according to the state investment promotion agency SPIRIT.
The 800 sq. metre building designed by the architectural firm SoNo arhitekti is being built by the Maribor-based producer of low-energy and passive houses Lumar.
The pavilion sitting on a plot measuring 1,910 sq metres will serve as the main venue for presentation of Slovenia and its economy to some 20 million people expected to visit Expo through various events, regional presentations and business conferences.
According to SPIRIT, which is overseeing Slovenia's participation at Expo 2015, the pavilion is located at the crossing of two major avenues at the Expo venue located north-west of Milan.
The building has been designed by SoNo arhitekti, a firm associating a young guard of Slovenian architects focusing on modern and sustainable architecture with an emphasis on energy efficiency.
A large section of the building is constructed from wood and glass. The western side of the pavilion is almost completely covered in glass, enabling the visitors to see the interior of the exhibition area from outside.
The pyramid-shaped pavilion will have five large rooms, with the first room facing the main avenue of the fairgrounds serving as entrance. It is the tallest part of the building and leads on to the four rooms that are progressively lower and broader.
The building is designed to resemble the diversity of Slovenia's geography, including the Alpine peaks, rolling hills, fields and valleys, and will offer an interactive walk through five main topics of Slovenia's presentation.
Under the slogan "I Feel Slovenia, Green.Active.Healthy", Slovenia will present its salt production, beekeeping, thermal and mineral water, healthy and active lifestyle, and green technologies.
SPIRIT sees Slovenia's participation at Expo 2015 as the biggest opportunity for international business promotion this year. Special emphasis will be placed on striking new business partnerships, especially in Italy as one of Slovenia's biggest trade partners.
Even before the opening of the exhibition, which which will run between 1 May and 31 October, various promotional events will be organised both in Slovenia and in Italy, including a presentation at the Expo Gate in Piazza Castello in Milan.
