Slovenia's Presentation at Expo Milano 2015
Ljubljana, 19 November - Slovenia's participation in the World Expo, which is to be held next year in Milan, was presented today at Cankarjev dom Culture and Congress Centre in Ljubljana. The presentation was organised by ICE, an agency for internationalizing and promoting Italian companies abroad at the Department of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy for economic promotion and the SPIRIT Slovenia public agency. The central theme of Expo Milano 2015 is food and its slogan is 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'. A total of 144 counties will take part in the Expo, which is expected to be visited by 20 million people. Slovenia will have its own pavilion there, presented under the slogan "I feel SLOVEnia, Green.Active.Healthy.". Slovenia's pavilion is perfectly situated in the middle of the Milan exhibition centre, placed at the centre of events.
Today's presentation also included a video presentation of Slovenia's pavilion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0BVipsGn8E) and an overview of Slovenia's presentation at the World Expo. The five main themes of the permanent exhibition will be outlined by means of interactive and multimedia presentations: salt pans, bees, thermal and mineral waters, hiking and cycling, and the black carbon measurement project. We want to raise awareness that by taking small steps we can all do something good for ourselves, Slovenia and the planet. 19 June 2015 will be very important for Slovenia, as on that day the Slovenian pavilion will host the "Slovenian national day" event. Over the course of six months, each country will hold a national day event as part of the World Expo.
Participants were addressed by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Dejan Židan, the Minister of Health, Milojka Kolar Celarc, the Director-General of Tourism and Internationalisation at the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, Marjan Hribar, and the Commissioner-General for the Slovenia Expo Milano 2015 section, Jerneja Lampret. Directors of the successful companies illycaffe, Julon-Aguafil Group, Lumar, Mlekarna Planika and Pipistrel also presented their experiences and views on the importance of Slovenia's participation in the World Expo.
Minister Židan stressed that Italy, which is successfully completing its term at the head of the rotating EU Council presidency, was making intensive preparations for the World Expo. He said that Slovenia has a significant economic interest in cooperation, since the largest share of tourists to Slovenia come from Italy, which is also Slovenia's second most important trading partner and the third largest foreign investor in Slovenia. At the Expo, Slovenia will pursue the following objectives: strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing the visibility of the national brand "I feel SLOVEnia", and enhancing Slovenia's reputation and visibility as a green tourist destination.
In her address, Minister Kolar Celarc also stressed the importance of Slovenia's presentation at Expo Milano 2015. With its slogan GREEN, ACTIVE and HEALTHY, Slovenia emphasises that a healthy diet and physical activity or exercise in fresh air both lead to better health in the long term. Slovenia, with its natural diversity, offers many opportunities for both. The Minister also stressed the importance of consuming locally grown food.
The permanent exhibition in the Slovenian pavilion will also benefit from a diverse six-month programme of cultural, tourist and economic presentations.
Slovenian regions will also present themselves. To that end, several Road Shows will be held throughout Slovenia in December 2014.
In addition, several smaller sector-oriented economic delegations will be organised for Slovenian companies along with the business part of the programme. There will also be partner packages on offer to help companies decide on their part in Slovenia's presentation, which are expected to be presented on SPIRIT Slovenia's website next week.
